There’s creatives who love getting messy with paints, markers and more, but lot’s of us only have the luxury of a family computer or school laptop/ipad.
So with those limitations in place, free drawing programs are heaven sent for us creatives just itching to make cool stuff! Here’s some programs to check out:
GIMP is a powerful alternative to Photoshop that’s been around forever. It’s perfect for photo retouching, image composition, and image authoring. If you need a full-featured photo editor without spending a cent, GIMP is the way to go.
Krita is a digital painting app that’s built by artists, for artists. Whether you’re into concept art, texture painting, or illustrations, Krita’s got the tools to help you bring your imagination to life.
Vectr is a simple yet powerful vector graphics editor. It’s like a mini-Illustrator but free. Perfect for creating logos, icons, or any other vector-based designs, and you can work directly in your browser.
SketchBook is a professional-grade painting app that’s free to use. It’s perfect for digital sketching and painting, with a clean interface and natural drawing experience.
Inkscape is a free and open-source vector graphics editor. It’s great for creating illustrations, diagrams, and complex designs. If you’re into SVG editing, this one’s for you.
Medibang Paint is a free digital painting and comic creation software that’s loaded with features. It’s lightweight, easy to use, and perfect for comic artists and illustrators. (this was my first drawing program!)
MyPaint is a free and open-source digital painting app. It’s perfect for artists who like to focus on the painting itself, with a minimalistic interface that lets you just dive in and create.
Sketches is a versatile and user-friendly sketching app designed for mobile devices. Create sketches, paintings and illustrations on the go.
Whether you’re sketching, storyboarding, animating or learning, FlipaClip provides a fantastic drawing and animating experience. It’s easy to make frame by frame animations!
